Youth commits suicide in hospital

A 21-year-old woman, who was admitted in the Marwari Relief Society Hospital, committed suicide jumping off the fourth floor of the hospital in the wee hours today. The victim's relatives blocked Rabindra Sarani for about two hours this morning alleging medical negligence on part of the hospital authorities. The blockade led to traffic congestion in the area. Police said, the , Rushna Khatik a resident of Shibtala in Howrah, was admitted to the hospital on 17 June with diarrhoea and high fever. Other patients of the female ward told police that she hardly spoke to people around her and it seemed that she was suffering from depression. The victim had also taken her dinner yesterday and there was nothing suspicious about her behaviour, police said. Today, around 3.45 a.m., Rushna jumped off a window of the female ward. A caretaker of the hospital found her body on the courtyard of the building in a pool of blood this morning. The matter was informed to police and officers of Posta police station rushed to the spot and sent the body for an autopsy.
